Alcoholism

by Sandra Zeron
(Inland Empire, CA)

My husband and I have been married going on 8 years. We conceived our first son out of wedlock. I was 18 and he was 21. Needless to say we were too young. I grew up in the picture prefect christin home both parents involved in church. Met my husband in church at 14. He grew up opposite of me. Came to this country at the age of 8 with his brother and grandmother. His mother abandoned him and his brother when they were infants. Grandmother was abusive verbally and physically.

Now my husband is currently in a Christian in house program were he is dealing with his alcoholism. Great program in Los Angeles, CA. He has been their for 11 months now...at first it was going good. Now I've seen a change to the negative. Started becoming verbally abusive towards me and our two sons. (He gets weekend pass to visit).

I know the Lord can transform people but my husband is not seeking him, I dont know how much longer I can stay married. We have lost everything because of his alcoholism. I refuse to loose my salvation for him.

Response to "Alcoholism"
by: Lee Baucom

While your husband is in treatment, I hope you are also getting help. Alcoholism quickly becomes a family issue. There may also be family issues you need to deal with, both from your past and his.

One issue that will arise for you is the need to set boundaries and have your husband decide whether or not he will live within them. Until then, you will continue to place yourself at risk.

If you are unfamiliar with boundaries, I have an entire chapter devoted to this in my ebook, Save Your Christian Marriage.

Best wishes.
