Am i going down the right path with my music?

I am a musician with one of my best friends in a duo. the Lord has given me wonderful talents that i thank Him for everyday. Recently we have decided on using our music for Him, and turning into a christian duo. I have wanted this all of my life, ever since i was two years old. Im 14 right now, young i know, but i have dreams. And i dont know how i can outstretch my music if its strictly christian. Im afraid people might not listen to it, or we might not make it, i really need advice. Guidance. Any suggestions on what i should do with this?

God Bless you!

Those heavenly notes
by: Karen

You have given me an opportunity to talk about one of my most favorite subjects ... one of my children.

Our son is also an aspiring young musician. We always knew he had a gift for music starting at an early age, but it wasn't until high school where he really started to shine.

But as a parent, I have to say it was difficult when he said he wanted to pursue music as a career. I mean, I was starting to see this unemployed musician living in our basement for the rest of our lives. :)

But God had another plan. Alex, our son, went to college as a music performance major. During those years he worked VERY hard in the practice rooms. He spent 3-4 hours every day along with doing his regular studies.

Alex is graduating at Christmas this year with his bachelor's degree. He wants to continue on for his masters very soon as well.

But the best part is that because of his hard work and dedication his professors always referred him for gigs. He earned some pretty great money during college performing in churches, clubs, etc.

Today he is a member of the Copper Street Brass Quintet. He recently came to our town "on tour". Now, that was very strange to see our son performing in his home town and then autographing CD's.

Here is my point in all of this...

If God gave you a heart for music and it is His purpose for you, then doors will open. But that doesn't mean it will just be handed to you. It also means that you will work harder than you've ever worked before.

As you proceed through high school and college, put your whole heart and soul into the work. But also keep your heart open to other things as well. God will show you where you need to go next. Take a step and see what God does with it.

But mostly, just enjoy the journey. Stay focused on God and He'll get you where you need to be.

Blessings,

Karen
