The Business Management Skill You Need Most

Doing Business with John

by E.L. Parker

Karen's Book Review

Is there one particular business management skill that covers the majority of issues? What is it and how do you get it?

I recently read a GREAT book, "Doing Business with John" by E.L. Parker. According to the lessons in this book, the one business management skill you need most is integrity. Although some may say integrity is a personal attribute, it is also the foundation of building and operating a successful business.....and showing integrity in every decision is indeed a business management skill.

Throughout this book, the author describes the Book of John from the New Testament and business building lessons that Jesus models. Every one of those lessons centers around Jesus' integrity. As He built His ministry, He ALWAYS did the right thing. He ALWAYS provided examples of exactly what the right decision looks like.
Sometimes the right decision isn't easy to recognize. That's why incorporating Jesus' examples into the business building process makes so much sense and will always yield the right results. I think we can all agree that Jesus' method of building His ministry was successful. After all, what other business can you name that is over 2000 years old and has the reach that Christianity does?

I liked this book because of its fresh approach. The following excerpt is one of my favorite parts of the book. The author is talking about the right message starting at the top and working its way down.

"When we are in crisis, it helps if everyone is clear about the core values of the business or organization, what the base message is and the strength of our personal beliefs and the forthrightness of the organizational leader."

Does that demonstrate that integrity is the ultimate business management skill or what?
