Calling All Women!

by Ameerah Lewis

Welcome to "Calling All Women".

Ever wonder why God made you a woman? I mean, have you ever wished, just for a second, that you had been born a male?

I'm Ameerah Lewis, and I can honestly say that I have tried to wish away my womanhood.

A sexual abuse survivor, I was taught at an early age that my femininity was not just a weakness, but a liability. The world around me validated that fact, by encouraging me to trade in my God given femininity for a more masculine approach to life.

I was taught:

  • Working inside of the home is not as meaningful as working outside of the home.

  • You don't need a man to have a family.

  • Submission will only get you mistreated. Control him before he tries to control you!
  • For years I prided myself on not being a lady. A woman, maybe, but definitely not a lady. I thought that ladies were weak, and I wanted to be strong. In my mind, that meant that I had to be more like a man.

I can still remember a conversation I had with my late grandmother. "Women can do anything men can do!" I told her.

"Yes," she replied, "but should they?" She paused before adding, "Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should." That day, I had no clue what my grandmother meant. But, now, I finally understand.

After I decided to live my life for Christ, I began seeking His will, and His divine plan for womanhood. I wanted to know why He thought that a world without women was "not good." I wanted to know who He said that I was, not just as a woman, but as His woman.

We all know what the world's idea of a strong woman is, but what about God's? Where does He say that your strength lies? Come and visit "Calling All Women" every month as we talk about God's divine plan for women, and practical ways we can live it out in our everyday lives.
