Here are two Christian based weight loss program books that I think have some really great stuff to help get you started. Sometimes reading several books on the same subject can give you enormous insight into the overall scheme of things. That's what I found when I started studying this topic.
So here are my two favorite Christian based weight loss program books:
The Weigh Down Diet
by Gwen Shamblin
The Weigh Down Diet is very interesting. When I first read this book, I couldn't quite grasp the concepts because it seemed too easy. It just seemed like there was no way this could be a real program. But then I read this book again. It was in truly studying the concepts that it finally began to click. And here's what the book really said to me:
God really can deal with any problem ... EVEN LOSING WEIGHT.
The program doesn't require you to have a perfect body image or some other random idea about what the world says is great. Rather, it puts the focus back where it belongs. It talks about how God created your body to work and if you will listen to your body, keep your mind focused on what God says instead of what the world says, then you can have the freedom of eating all foods, even the best desserts.
Boy, I was a happy camper when I read that part. But then, my skepticism entered the picture again. As I kept reading I saw that when you stay focused on the messages from your body, you naturally eat only enough to be comfortably full and no more.
What a concept.
In all honesty, I see this book as a victory in overcoming food addiction once and for all. It teaches you how to deal with temptation, how to focus on what God says in times of trouble, and it helps you understand what's really happening in your own body.
Look Great, Feel Great
by Joyce Meyer
I REALLY liked this book. Joyce Meyer is one of my all time favorite author because she's able to put things in a real world, every day, gotta live it, perspective. She really shows her skills when she talks about getting healthy. And that's what this book is about ... getting healthy as opposed to just focusing on losing weight.
The book breaks down the issues and covers them in 12 keys. Here they are:
Key 1: Let God do the Heavy Lifting
Key 2: Learning to Love your body
Key 3: Mastering Metabolism
Key 4: Exercise
Key 5: Balanced Eating
Key 6: Water your Life
Key 7: Mindful Eating
Key 8: Curb your Spiritual Hunger
Key 9: De-Stress
Key 10: Right Vision
Key 11: Make it Easy
Key 12: Take Responsibility
So there you have it. This book breaks down each key into usable, workable solutions. But remember, the real Key is submitting your health to God and working with Him to get healthy once and for all.
