Christian Depression Help.....Some Answers to Hard Questions
Seeing in the Dark
by Gary Kinnaman and Richard Jacobs, MD
Karen's Book Review
Finding Christian depression help can become overly complicated these days. There is so much stuff out there that it's hard to know what and who to believe. Everyone seems to have an opinion about this, even though most people are completely ignorant when it comes to this issue. I must admit to being a part of this ignorant group before I started this site and began doing some research on the site topics. The information on depression is eye-opening, to say the least.
"Seeing in the Dark" is written by a Christian pastor and a Christian doctor. These two guys have both experienced depression in themselves or a loved one and are speaking from first hand experience. From my view, the comprehensive approach in this book is positively excellent. The authors know what it's like to deal with all the misconceptions, improper labels, and people who mean well by offering their version of help, but basically don't have a clue about this illness.
Dispelling the notion that depression is something you can simply ignore, get over, or move past with determination alone is the focus of the book. The authors talk about all the medical issues, both mental and physical, the appropriate medications, the need for therapy, and the need for Christian insight and wisdom. It is this complete approach that addresses the issues from the "been there, done that", view that makes the material believable, understandable and very real. I highly recommend this book to anyone suffering from the mildest, occasional down days to the more severe, ongoing forms of this medical disease. The book doesn't offer you any magic cure, but it gives you Christian depression help in the form of tools and mostly, A LOT of hope. I also want to give you some Scriptures for Depression, and a Print and Pray prayer you can use over and over.
