How Sound is Your Christian Judgement?

How sound is your Christian judgement? As a Christian, are you allowed to judge other people? What if your point of view is right? Are you supposed to simply look the other way?

I don't think using Christian judgment is a license to judge other people, but rather, is a tool to help you make right choices in your own life.

It starts with your desire to develop a strong relationship with God. From that relationship comes a real desire to please God and to live God's way. And when you're doing all all of sudden, things you never thought about become issues you need to face and deal with.

These are the things that need wisdom and your sound Christian judgement the most. Here are just a few of those ...

  • You're sitting at lunch with your co-workers and talk badly about your boss behind their back.

  • You're on the phone complaining about your husband, your kids, your health, and pretty much everything else to whoever will listen.
  • You're on your way out the door of your office and you remember that you need some file folders for your son's homework project so you just grab some and take them home.
  • Someone comes to work wearing something you don't feel is appropriate. What are the thoughts that go through your head about that person?

This list could literally go on forever. The opportunity to show sound Christian judgement will start almost as soon as you get up in the morning and will continue until you go to bed at night.

It sure seems easier to judge other people and what they're doing than to stay focused on your own life. Funny thing is, when you stand before God someday, He isn't going to ask about someone else's life. But I'm pretty sure He's going to want to know about every detail of your life.

This is a very difficult topic. I deal with this issue in my own life. It is so tough to watch other people doing things that you don't feel are in their best interest and NOT SAY ANYTHING. Ugh. In my case, I think it would be easier to stop eating chocolate....and that's saying something!

Here are some scriptures you can use to help you study this important area:
Psalm 119:66-69 Teach me good judgement and knowledge, for I believe Your commandments. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes. The proud have forged a lie against me, but I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart.

John 5:30 I can, of Myself, do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgement is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

Proverbs 2:1-5 My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding, Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
