The Christian Wife ... What Does that Mean?

Sarah, My Beloved

by Sharlene MacLaren

Karen's Book Review

Being a Christian wife...so what does that mean exactly? In her new book, "Sarah, My Beloved", Sharlene MacLaren does a great job of depicting the ultimate Christian wife.

Of course, the book takes place when indoor plumbing was just becoming all the rage. And marriage vows included that whole "love, honor, and obey" litany. But, in any event, I think the underlying theme throughout the book was inspiring to those of us who find life a lot less like a Christian fiction novel and a lot more like a Stephen King horror film.

The concept of following God's will, no matter where it leads, can be accomplished by some, but seems elusive to most people. They want to do it....they even try hard to do it. But somewhere along the way, life gets in the way and the next thing you know, they're somewhere in a ditch trying their level best to see over the next hill. Sound familiar?

In this book, the main character, Sarah, makes a huge leap of faith by marrying someone she hardly knew. That leap of faith is based on constant prayer, and following the peace that can only come from God as you develop an ongoing relationship with Him. Sarah followed God's leading to become a Christian wife, even though she had absolutely no idea where it would lead her.

I don't know about you, but just consider what that kind of leap of faith would mean in your own life. Can you imagine marrying somebody you hardly know because it just felt right deep, down inside? In today's world, people who do that sort of thing end up on Oprah.

My only criticism is that Sarah appeared too saintly in some ways. The book didn't talk much about her frustrations or the mental breakdown most of us probably would have being put in the same situation. Sarah's words and actions were those of the absolutely perfect Christian wife. And unfortunately, most of us would have a hard time living up to perfection.

However, that being said, it never hurts to have a perfect role model. This book is the second in the Little Hickman Creek Series and is a great read.

So now you want this book...and you want it CHEAP.

I like CHEAP books.

On the net, the cheapest book prices are usually at Amazon.
