How Do You Combat Fear?Finding help to combat fear isn't always easy, especially when a lot of great stuff gets lost amongst the stuff that's not so great. Fear seems to poke its ugly head into our lives constantly. Sometimes the reason you don't move forward is not only because of fear itself, but because of its deceptive nature, you don't realize it. So what do you do to combat fear? How do you stop it from controlling your life? The Word says that God didn't give us the spirit of fear, but a sound mind. Fear is the opposite of faith. But it is possible to have faith and still be afraid. It's a strange concept, but it's very true. Your mind can be full of faith that you're doing what God is telling you to do, but your body still feels the fear. If you feel certain you should be moving forward, then do it anyway.....despite the fear.
The more you learn about God's character and His nature, the more you realize that the best way to combat fear is to keep focused on Him. As long as you're doing your best to follow Him and His will for your life, you can treat fear exactly for what it is...a hindrance to moving forward. Satan is working overtime these days. With all the chaos and turmoil in the world, it's so easy for him to plant seeds of doubt and fear in our hearts. But learning how to overcome fear means calling Satan's attacks what they truly are. Lies. Please don't let those lies hold you back from all that God has for you. Having a firm grasp of your Christian priorities will give you the road map you need to keep your thoughts on the right things and off FEAR. And reading some GREAT books on how to combat fear will give you even more insight into how you can move past this hindrance. There are a lot of great scriptures on how to combat fear. Here are a few that will help you get moving in the right direction: Psalm 91:4-6: (Then) He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow(the evil plots and slanders of the wicked)that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday. Psalm 112:7: He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is firmly fixed, trusting, (leaning on and being confident) in the Lord. II Timothy 1:7: For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but (He has given us a spirit) of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. I John 4:18: There is no fear in love (dread does not exist), but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment and (so) he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love (is not yet grown into love's complete perfection.) Here is a "Print and Pray" prayer you can use to help you combat fear. Print and Pray Lord, You are an awesome God, the creator of the entire universe...and yet you let me come to You with all my needs. You are truly worthy of all my praise and adoration. I know You can see how afraid I am. Your Word says that fear isn't from You. So God, please help me see fear for what it really is.....an attack from Satan to keep me from moving forward. In Your holy name, I stand against fear in all its forms in my life. I receive healing from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. I believe with all my heart that I am moving forward to do what You're calling me to do with my life. Thank You Lord for helping me rise above my fear. Thank You for walking with me through everything that makes me afraid. I know I'll be OK because You're there to hold me up. Show me how to keep my focus on You. Fill me up with Your word so I can speak it out loud when I become afraid. I ask all things in Jesus' name. AMEN!
