Solomon's Definition of Wisdom

The Prayer of Solomon

by Bordon Books

Karen's Book Review

What is the definition of wisdom? According to Webster, it's....

1a: accumulated philosophic or scientific learning, knowledge b: ability to discern inner qualities and relationships, insight c: good sense, judgement d: generally accepted belief

2: a wise attitude, belief, or course of action

3: the teachings of the ancient wise men

Does that say a mouthful or what? Wouldn't it be great if you could simply drive up to a "Wisdom Drive-thru", receive your allotment of wisdom and keep on going? What a concept.....

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple.

Solomon, believed to be the world's wisest man, definitely had the right idea. His priorities were right. His attitude was right. AND mostly, his heart was right.

I just finished a new book called, "The Prayer of Solomon" from Bordon Books. What impressed me the most was not only Solomon's definition of wisdom, but also the description of his values and priorities that contributed to his wisdom.

As the book addresses each of these priorities, it not only describes them, but it gives you a wonderful prayer for each one. For example, Solomon's first priority was to seek after God with all his heart. Take a look at this wonderful prayer to help you do that.....

Father,

I want to know You as You promise in Your Word. Thank You for sending your Son to save me and Your Holy Spirit to guide me in Your wisdom. And that You want to know me even more than I want to know You. Thank You for the love You extend to me every day. Father, I want to walk in that love.

I admit that I do not have the wisdom on my own to accomplish all that you have put in my heart to do in this lifetime. I need Your guidance to walk every step of every day of my life.
I thank You, too, that You have given me the promises of Your Word to accomplish the dreams You have given me, and that I can have confidence that You will do exactly as You have said You will do.

Father, as I read this book and seek You as Solomon did, I ask that You will answer and show up in my life just as You did in his. I also ask that You will show me more clearly Your dreams and purposes for my life and that You will give me Your wisdom to fulfill all You show me.

I offer my praise and thanksgiving to You and ask these things in Jesus' name.

Amen.

As Solomon's definition of wisdom in this book became clear, I was truly amazed that any human being could have as much patience as he did. The issues were endless in those days, just as they are today. But because his attitude was right, he prayerfully overcame all the obstacles.

I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a great example of how to put God first and receive God's best. Maybe someday the people in your life will talk about YOUR definition of wisdom!
