Depression

by Esther
(Riverside, California)

My boyfriend is battling with depression, Anxiety, and fear, due to his financial problems, and being unemployed, and other things. He is a christian, he loves the Lord but his faith is weak right now.

My question is how can I pray for him and help him so that he can have the strength to overcome all of this? I know and he knows that God is the only one that can help him, but how can I be of help as well for him? He tells me that he feels like God is far away and doesn't hear his prayers, even though he knows God is there with him and is listening to all his prayers etc.

I don't know if you can help me and give me advice that I can use to help him?

I always ask the Lord to give me words of encouragement for him.

Could you please help me pray for him, his name is Ernesto ?

Thank you for your time, and sorry for making this a long letter.

God Bless
~ Esther

It sounds like you're doing everything you can to help your boyfriend and that is wonderful! He believes in God but the circumstances he's in is making him feel that there's no hope. That is the "evil one," for he's hoping that any time any one of us goes through hard and difficult times, that we give up on God.

Keep reminding your boyfriend that God does not desert us when hard times come. Tell him to hold on to his faith, keep praying and doing good things in his life--for God will answer his prayers and yours...

Don't give up or give in! God knows your needs and will answer your prayers..

God Bless,

Depression help

Hi Esther,

It's never easy to watch somebody you love go through tough times, is it? There is that terrible feeling of helplessness that sometimes makes you feel as bad as your loved one.

I know how you feel, Esther. I think we all do.

It is always the absolute best course of action to pray. God should always be your first line of defense. It opens the door so God can do His part in helping meet your need.

But Ernesto also has a part to play. Has he done all he can to look for employment? Has he pursued job training or more education that will qualify him for better work?

Is he seeking Christian counseling so he has somebody to talk to about his depression?

It is really important that we give God something to work with. When we're doing all we can and giving it to God, then He can take it and do what we can't do.

In the meantime, here is my prayer for Ernesto:

Holy and Mighty Father,

You are an awesome and wondrous God. Nothing is too hard for You. You've created every single thing in the universe, yet You allow us to come directly before You for help. Your love is beyond our comprehension.

Lord, You know Ernesto's situation better than anyone. You see the needs that are deep in his heart. Father, please touch Ernesto's heart.

Help him do all that You have planned for Him. Open the doors so he can get good employment. Help him see that he is a partner with You in turning things around in his life.

Surround him with good role models who will show him how to move forward in his Christian walk with you. Help him put You first in all things so You can bless him and show him favor.

Lord we thank You for hearing our prayer and we thank You for all You are doing in Ernesto's life.

In Jesus name we ask all things. AMEN!

Esther, I also wish you...

Many blessings,

Karen

Your words of concern for your boyfriend are caring and filled with compassion.

Depression and anxiety can often be overcome by taking action, praying, reading the Bible and sometimes, by trying something new.

If he is doing everything he can to make the situaiton better, that is commendable! You are doing your best to help him--with prayer and being kind.

Don't give up, stay close to God, keep praying and know that God will answer your prayers..

I will keep praying for you, too...

Trust and belief

Remember - " Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding"

I will pray for you both. Have your man to ask God for direction and clarity in his future and to guide him to a fulfilling job. God has his time table and ours doesn't always fit perfect with it. But God is on time, all the time. We are human and it's hard to be patient.

I've been told in my situation to "LET GO and Let GOD handle it.
