The Discipline of a Godly Woman .... and then some

A Woman after God's Own Heart

By Elizabeth George

If you were to study the discipline of a Godly woman, I think you would find this book.

When I read "A Woman After Gods Own Heart", I was both pleasantly surprised and a little overwhelmed. I must say, it definitely requires a call to action.

Seeing a woman's role as a wife and mother as being "on assignment" from God, takes the responsibility to an entirely different level. While it's easy to get caught up in all the stuff we assume is just normal life, Elizabeth George shows how all that stuff needs to be prioritized and put in proper perspective.
I completely agree with the author's assessment that prayer is required in everything. Before all actions, decisions, and contemplations, the discipline of a Godly woman tells her to PRAY first. I think Elizabeth's examples of how praying first helps lead her to right decisions make a strong case for this concept.

However, all that being said, I was a bit overwhelmed at the part of the book that talks about being a "home manager." While I agree it would be great to not only have the skills to do all the special things that make a home special, I don't know if making the doing of those things a priority, is right for all women in all circumstances.

This part of the book almost implies that in order to truly be a woman after Gods own heart, you must also be a superwoman. You must take on all the household tasks, cater to your husband and your kids above everything else, do it with a good attitude and do it in every circumstance. I'm just not so sure that having the discipline of a Godly woman means doing everything for everybody all the time without exception.

And although I believe Elizabeth has her priorities in the correct order, I also think there are different family dynamics in each situation. I think there are things that work for one family that don't necessarily work for another, and I think the trick is to find what works in your own family and implement it.

I do think making your husband your number one "human" priority is right on the mark. Elizabeth talks a lot about how to be the helper God created us to be. She even gives very practical suggestions on how to make it all come together.

Overall, I would heartily recommend "A Woman After Gods Own Heart" to women looking to "come up higher" in their calling as Christian women.

OK, take a look at these prices. You're investing very little and getting a huge return.
