Fasting and prayer. Today? Before I read this book I had a pretty good understanding of the value of prayer, but fasting? Although fasting was pretty prevalent in the Old Testament, I thought it went out with chariot races. That is...until I read "The Circle Maker".
There are lots of books about prayer in the marketplace. I've even read lots of books on prayer. But when "The Circle Maker" arrived in my office, I felt compelled to take a look. Once I started reading, it grabbed me in a way that I haven't felt from a book for quite some time.
I am a great proponent of praying scripture over your life in order to see results. I firmly believe that prayer and healing go hand in hand. I am also a proponent of speaking positive, life affirming stuff to yourself and those around you so God has fertile ground in which to work. This book combines all of those things.
But it takes it all a step further. Circling your biggest dreams and greatest fears in prayer takes courage. The author insists that you pray big, bold prayers. He says the only way to see big dreams come to pass is to pray through your circumstances without wavering. I especially like that the author shows you how this concept has worked in his life for many years. It's proven.
So how does fasting fit into all of this? What I didn't realize is that fasting takes your prayers to another level. It shows God just how serious you are about wanting His plan for your life. It's as if praying brings you into the ground floor of God's house, but fasting takes you up to the penthouse, where God lives.
The book also talks about what appears to be unanswered prayer. The author shows that every prayer is answered but it takes persistence and patience to see the answers come to pass. Each prayer is a seed that is sown and God uses His plan to determine when the harvest will come from it.
I recommend this book for anybody that wants to go deeper in their Christian walk. I recommend it for anybody who REALLY wants to connect with God through prayer. And yes, it's prayer that works.
