Finding my Daddy
When I was 8 years old, my dad left my mom and we 3 girls for a job close to Houston, Texas. At the time, we were living in East Texas in a small town named Marshall and Mom didn't want to move away from all that she knew. For about a year or more, Dad came home for a visit every few months until he finally disappeared out of our lives. At the age of 14, my parents divorced and I went to live with my maternal grandparents that lived on the Texas/Louisiana state line. My sisters and I became separated. They lived with Mom, her friends, and with a few family members in between Mom's eight more marriages. We kids found out later in life that Dad had married seven more times. I didn't find my dad again until I was 34 years old when my cousin discovered him working in a scrap metal yard in Marshall, Texas. I stood by the time clock at the outside gate one day at quitting time introducing myself to him. He was working for cash and had changed his last name to Stetson because he did not want to be found. He had ran over a man and killed him one night in his drunken stupor so the law was looking for him, and he owed years of child support for we three kids. Dad was a mean alcoholic. But God put a love in my heart for him that I can not describe and still have now even though he has been deceased for 11 years. I went home with Dad that day, met his eighth wife, and started an adult relationship. At the age of 75 Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and given 6 months to a year to live with radiation treatments. All these years God had put words to say to Dad to witness to him about needing to be saved- to ask Jesus in his heart and to forgive him for his sins. Dad resisted, but he listened. I know because when he was 76, a year later, he had a series of mini strokes along with not being able to breathe from the lung cancer and was hospitalized. He couldn't talk because his mouth was paralyzed, but he wrote on the little blackboard for the nurse to call his daughter and the phone number. The nurse called me and I went immediately to the hospital which was a 3 hour drive. When I saw Dad, I knew that his time would soon be up so I asked him to squeeze my hand if he wanted me to pray for him to receive salvation. He did so I prayed and gave him a hug as I left for home again with tears rolling down my cheeks. When I arrived home, the hospital was calling to say that Dad had pasted away. God is so GOOD! He let me reunite with my dad and lead him to salvation before he died. I have peace knowing that Dad is in heaven! Nothing is impossible or too hard for God! He loves us unconditionally! If you've not ask him to come and live in your heart and to forgive you of your sins, ask him now! Today is the day of salvation!!!
