Finding Your Life Purpose ... And Then What?

Why does it seem like "finding your life purpose" is so simple for some people? Why do they just seem to fall into things that fit them the best? Do you feel like the only one that doesn't have a clue about "finding your life purpose?"

I marvel at the expectations we place on our high school graduating seniors. Inevitably the question is....."so what are your plans after high school?"

I'm not sure why we, as adults, think our graduating high school seniors should know exactly where their lives are going when, for the most part, we don't even know where our own lives are going.

What's The Answer? I Don't Even Know the Question....

While it's true that God has a special plan for each person, finding your life purpose is about more than just what's in store for each person individually. Before you can ever get to your individual plan, you need to get really good at the "group plan", or as I like to call them, God's ground rules:

God has to be first in your life. If you're standing with one foot in the circle, and one foot outside the circle, then how can God ever see which side you're really on? God wants you to live a life of excellence. Yup, that means working with God to "prune" those areas that are preventing you from moving forward...like gossiping, tale bearing, and a whole host of other stuff we tend to do everyday.

There cannot be unresolved, unconfessed sin lurking in your life. God already knows it's there, so trying to hide or being unwilling to admit the sin, ask forgiveness, and move on is like adding more bricks to a huge wall that stands between you and God.

Being offended and holding offense against someone else is simply another one of those bricks. As long as you stay offended and refuse to forgive, then it is very difficult for God to get through. The only vision you'll ever have is that great, big, brick wall right in front of you.

Learn how to be a blessing. One of the most difficult steps in finding your life purpose is discovering that God is calling ALL of US to be a blessing to someone else. It's hard because it means putting the focus on someone else....not you.

By looking for ways to be a blessing, you give God a chance to take care of all your "stuff" because you're helping someone else with their "stuff". Funny how God's system works, not at all what you'd expect from the world's system.

God, You Want Me to Do What??

Once God can see you're all about following the ground rules, He can move on to His plan for you personally. Now, don't get the idea there will be some kind of billboard that magically appears as you're driving along someday. No, God's plan comes through your gifts and your dreams. After all, He's the One who gave you all those things in the first place.

Pray and ask God to start showing you what your next step should be. If you feel deep in your heart that He's showing you a direction, and you have peace about it, then.....TAKE A STEP toward your dream. God's word says if He'll guide our paths if we'll delight in Him. SO....that means if you take a step, God will take a step.

That step might come to you through other people, or you might "suddenly see an opportunity", or you may even encounter a situation where the light bulb just seems to go on.

God can use anything He chooses. You just need to be open to see what He might be showing you while finding your life purpose.
