Finding your purpose in life doesn't begin and end in a day. It is an ongoing, constant process that unfolds each day as you continually work with God. It happens over a period of years, not days.
This concept means different things to different people. Some people think it means destiny. What are you destined to do? Where are you destined to be?
To others it means knowing the right career for you. And not just knowing, but knowing from an early age that you're purpose is to find the cure for cancer or write the great life story of heroes.
There's nothing wrong with those things if you happen to be one of the lucky ones who DOES know from an early age what you're called to do. But most people aren't in that group. Most people uncover God's purpose for your life step by step, little by little.
It's accepting that just because you can't see your whole life map right in front of you, there is NOTHING wrong with you.
I think this is what causes so much confusion and that horrible feeling of being lost. People wander around going from one thing to another, finding some success but then faltering. Yup, you failed again. I guess it's one more failure to add to the list. Right?
So what's the answer? The answer comes in two parts. First, finding your purpose in life isn't going to happen for you until you TUNE IN. Tuning in means you're willing to spend time getting to know who God is and His character. It means you're willing to start trusting that He knows what's best for you, EVEN WHEN IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.
It means you commit to learning and growing through the times when God is trying to teach you things or break some things off of you. Sometimes God needs you to see the truth about yourself or about a situation before He can use you in the purpose to which He's called you. You must practice "being a Christian". What a concept...
It's a Scary Thing...
The second part part of this has to do with following your dreams. There are a ton of people out there that hate their jobs. They literally hate to get up in the morning because they hate what they do and where they are in life.
FEAR is the biggest dream stealer of your life. The "what ifs" and the "then whats" will suck every bit of passion for your dream right out of you.
Working with God on those dreams is what will propel you forward. When you take the dream to God and start asking questions, you're bound to start seeing answers. When you open your heart to the answer, even if it's something you don't want to hear, then you're on your way to finding your purpose in life.
You have two choices. You can either stay where you are and be unhappy or you can start talking and working with God to move into what's He's called you to do and be. It's up to you.
Now it's your turn! Give us your thoughts!
How Did You Find Your Life Purpose?
What kinds of things have you discovered in your journey with God? What has He shown you about this process?
Finding your purpose in life means pursuing lots of options. That's exactly what I did for a lot of years. But it wasn't until a couple years ago when I made the decision to start a web business.
A web business? ME??? Quite a stretch for somebody who didn't know THING ONE about it!
BUT, the good news is that I found some amazing help. Here's how I did it.
