Get answers for your financial questions

by Ivy
(Accra, Ghana)

I am torn between the biblical quotation to give freely and out of faith. I do not know if financial principles can be applied to godly giving. I find myself complaining these times. becuause i need to raise a house and move out from where i am lodging soon. It means i have to manage well my earnings. I simply have not clue where my money goes at all. I can not remember all the things i have used my money for. I feel guitly if i have money i can not help someone and yet i feel so stressed financially.

Tithing
by: Jacqueline Larmond

Dear Bob,

I like your winning spending plan!!! it really sounds like a fool proof plan and i intend to try it also beginning the end of this month. I am struggling with the principle of giving to God; not that i don't want to do it, but as you say it goes against all human understanding to do so especially when things are bad financially. This is my cry for almost (it seems like forever) i can't even remember how many years. But one thing i'm sure of is that i MUST tithe, if i don't i'm telling God that he's not able and i do not trust Him. I've been warning my husband not to spend my tithing money or i'll be really MAD!!! as i believe the Lord has a blessing in store for me, He's just waiting on me to take that leap of faith by giving my tithes this Sunday. My expenses this month far exceed my earnings, so i really don't know how God is going to work it out, but i'm going to be faithful and put Him to the test. I know Christians who say it's okay to owe God as if he's operating a bank; you just need to pay Him interest; He will understand ... i don't share this opinion at all.
God bless you. I hope i'm able to encourage someone else who is struggling with the principle of tithing, as i have two kids to feed and a husband who is not working at the moment ... so it's not a pretty picture, with bank loans, credit card debt, etc., etc., etc. ... the list never ends.

Your sister in Christ.

Giving and Saving
by: Bob

Ivy,

It goes against human understanding to give or tithe when things aren't going well financially. But God's message in Malachi 3:10 reads, "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the Lord Almighty, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you!"

You need to begin using a money spending plan to know where your money is going. Once you've identified your expenses, set up two more spending categories - one for paying yourself (savings) and one for giving. The magic formula is 10-10-80. The first 10% of what you earn goes toward giving; the second 10% goes to your savings, and the 80% balance of what you earn goes to pay all of your bills.

Try this and stick with it for 90 days. At that point it will become a habit and then begin to observe the wonderful things that start to happen once you trust God and put your faith in what He is capable of accomplishing in your life.

My ebook, The Financial Facelift has a step-by-step plan to erase debt and begin to build wealth.

All the best!
