Getting the Increase

by Val Coan
(Decatur, Alabama)

“He must increase, but I must decrease.”
John 3:30 (KJV)

My time, my job, my house, my children, my wants and then, maybe there is time for God.

How I live my life on the increase and leave God leftovers. It is no small wonder that I go running from here to there, always planning what has to be done next, tomorrow, next week and so on. Always wondering who I will meet with next, what problem should I solve first.

When this verse was revealed to me, I realized how little of my time I give to God - alone. My daily bible reading was just a shadow, I have a prayer life when I am driving or have a thought about something. No time to seek wisdom from God’s word; much less have a serious chat with Him. I live my life for God ‘on the fly’. How can He ever increase in my life if I never take the time to let His word saturate my life?

Daily bible study, walking in prayer, seeking His will, loving His word. My time is manageable, my job goes well, my house is clean, my children are cared for and my needs are met. And God has increased so much in my life. As I pray for His guidance and ask Him to give me wisdom, I have peace in every circumstance that I face.

He is the ruler of my life, He is my creator. As I spend time with Him daily, I see so many positive changes in my life. When He is increased, the need for me is not so much. My wants and desires now turn to knowing Him more intimately - having a relationship lead by the Lord when I freely give Him control.

As I have let God increase in my daily life, there is so much peace knowing that I cannot handle it, but He can.

Good Word for Busy Women
by: Bonnie W

Valerie,
This is so true. I see it so often in the women I minister to and even at times in my own life. It takes work to continually make time for Him but if we invest in that relationship, our lives do prosper. Thanks for sharing. Keep on writing for Him.

This devotional is thought provoking. I can
relate to "too much busyness"...,but am encouraged when I am still before God.

Wonderful Honest and uplifting
by: Angela Posey-Arnold

Thank you for writing this. So honest and so evident that God is at work in your life--drawing you closer to Him everyday.
It reminds me of Psalms 130:5-6
I am counting on the Lord;
Yes I am counting on Him
I have put my hope in His Word

I long for the Lord
more than sentries long for the dawn
yes more than sentires long for the dawn.

So obvious this is from your heart.

Yes & Amen
by: cgeewriter

"Tis so true! Why does it take a life for us to figure it out? Being in His presence, placing Him first yields joy, hope, comfort, wisdom, encouragement as well as peace. Thanks for the reminder to get our priorities correct. CG
