Getting your House Organized: Motto at the End of the Day
by Cynthia Hatcher

My motto at the end of each day is this:
There is a place for everything and everything has its place.
The furniture may need dusting, the mirrors may need a little Windex but at the end of each day I make sure every thing is in its place. All the dishes are put away, the mail I received today is out of sight, everyone’s shoes are put away and the rugs are straightened. My home office desk is straightened and the next day’s activities are written out, ready to be accomplished. Can you see the picture? Maybe not perfectly clean but yet organized.
When I first put this motto into practice, I would walk around my home with papers or something in my hand repeating in my mind, “There’s a place for everything and everything in its place.” I would not put it down until I decided what place was going to be the permanent home of this particular object. Sometimes you may have an object which is not like any other object but it still needs a place. That’s how the “junk drawer” in our home was established.
I don’t know about you but my mind seems clearer in the morning when I am in prayer and bible study knowing whatever I need for myself or for my family is in its place. We can go put our hands directly on it. We are not in a treasure hunt inside of our home.
It also adds to a peaceful environment and just a healthy good feeling to wake in the morning with everything all ready in order. When I arise I may have a few chores to do, sweep the kitchen floor or wipe out the bathroom sink but I’m not running around and neither is my family looking for what we need before leaving to start our day. We are not rushing out of the door, running late because we couldn’t find something.
This also adds to a productive day when the family arrives home. We can move on to our next activity (which could simply be relaxing) when we come into an organized environment.
I encourage you to take a few minutes, before you take time for yourself.
