God's timing?

by Michelle

My 4 year old just passed away unexpectedly from pneumonia. I am battling back and forth with the question of whether God really takes us when its our "so called time" or if he allows us to make our own choices and doesn't intervene or save us from the outcomes of them he just redeems us with giving us eternal life with him?

God's Comfort and Grace
by: Karen

Hi Michelle,

How does a parent face the loss of a child? I simply cannot comprehend the pain that must be in your heart. Please accept my deepest and sincerest sympathy.

Michelle, there are no easy answers to your question. I think you would find as many variations as there are people.

If you are asking my opinion, then here it is.

I think God has a plan for each of us, but I think our choices interfere with that plan. When I look at all the cancer and other diseases in the world, it just baffles the mind.

Years ago you didn't see such a rampant spread of all that stuff. But then, people grew their own food, they ate and drank pure milk and water, they didn't have chemicals and pesticides that we use today.

There wasn't so much pollution and all the other negative, environmental stuff that reeks so much havoc on all of us.

My point is that all those choices made by the human race are creating the negative results like more deaths and more sicknesses.

So does God intervene? Sometimes. But many, many times He lets the natural consequences of our choices take their course.

Michelle, I'm certainly not saying you made ANY wrong choices when it came to your child. I'm speaking only in general terms.

When and if God intervenes is a complete mystery. I think about the story of Job in the Bible. When Job asked God why he had to suffer and why all that bad stuff happened to him, including losing all his children, God's only answer was talking about the mysteries of the universe.

There once was a story about a man who had a son who was very sick. The man was a devout Christian who prayed as hard as he could pray. The son continued to get sicker and sicker until he died.

The man was angry. He went to God and said,

"God, how could you do this? Why did my son have to die? Where were you when I prayed?"

God answered the man, "The same place I was when my son died."

There will always be bad things happening to good people. And there will always be situations like yours that are beyond our understanding.

All we have is the comfort and peace that God offers if we ask. He WILL walk with you through these dark days.

And Michelle, we will all walk with you too.

Blessings,

Karen
