Her Big Mouth is a Problem.....Sound Familiar?

There is probably no bigger Christian challenge than trying to control our mouth. Over and over we find ourselves in situations where we say the wrong thing. Intentionally or unintentionally, it just seems to happen.

I found this book easy to read and very helpful. But before I tell you much about the book I want to just list the topics it covers:

The Lying, flattering, manipulating, hasty, divisive, argumentative, boasting, self-depracating, slandering, gossiping, meddling, betraying, belittling, cynical, the know-it-all, harsh, tactless, intimidating, rude, judgmental, self-absorbed, cursing, complaining, retaliating, accusing, doubting, discouraging, loquacious, indiscreet, and silent tongue.

Does the list cover your problem?

Believe me, it sure covers mine! Look at all the areas where we have the opportunity to say dumb things. Maybe "Her big mouth" applies to each one of us.

The thing I liked best about this book is that even though there are LOTS of problem areas, the author offers solutions too. After each topic, she provides a daily affirmation statement that puts the right attitude and the right focus on the issue.

Let me give you a sample of the affirmations so you can see how simple they are:

Lying Tongue: My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse.

Manipulating Tongue: Because I am in right standing with God, He surrounds me with favor. Therefore, I have no need to manipulate anyone for personal gain or advantage.

The author also suggests a 30 day tongue fast. It is a process that will make you keenly aware of all the times you say things where "her big mouth" becomes "your big mouth." UGH.

I recommend this book because God's Word says that words are containers for power. The power of life and death is in the tongue. So if God feels that strongly about it, then perhaps we need to be more focused on it.
