How do I help?

Besides praying everyday, how can I help my son who is suicidal at times, has mental and emotional problems and refuses to seek treatment due to a very bad experience with a counselor? It is tearing me apart to watch, not knowing what to do since he is a legal adult now. He has an eating disorder, personality disorder, and severe depression. What can I do?

Letting go is so hard
by: Karen

As parents we want our kids to be happy and successful. When they hurt, we hurt. Sometimes I think it hurts more to watch our kids hurt than if we are hurting ourselves.

You are in a very difficult position. Because your son is of legal age, there is very little you can do from a practical standpoint. Unless your son is a danger to himself or somebody else, you can't intervene in his life unless it's his idea.

It's easy for me to tell you to pray and let God handle your son, but it will be the most difficult thing you'll ever do. Pray that God will send someone into your son's life that will make an impact.

Pray the Word for your son. Confess God's promises for your son. Repeat and repeat and repeat.

Stay close to your son. Show him what real Christianity looks like. Love him by being available when he needs to talk. Talk to your pastor about the situation and get the support you need to stand firm in your fight for your son.

Just know that even though you might not see things changing immediately, God is working behind the scenes to change things.

Blessings,

Karen

helping your son
by: Anonymous

You can pray for him. You can also hand him over to God for God loves him more than you can ever imagine. sometimes we try to hold on to what is not ours only what God entrusts us to care for. Prayer is powerful, if you have some other people who will pray for him then I would ask them to pray with you over your son. Trust God and pray. I will pray for your son too.

God bless
