by Shelly Adams
(Guyana)

Blessing to you my sister-in-Christ. It is over one year now that I am feeling a pulling and urging in my spirit to attend Bible College, but, I keeping putting off. I am once more having that feeling again. The truth is I am afraid of the reason why would God want me to go to Bible School.
What would you advise me to do.

Forget the fear and worry
by: Karen

Confusion is something that doesn't come from God. And neither does fear, for that matter.

I think one of the hardest things to convey when you talk about finding God's purpose for your life is that it's not some magical process that miraculously reveals itself all in a day. There are no flashing lights or big neon signs that illuminate whenever you get close to the plan.

I know that's probably a bit dramatic, but I think sometimes we think that's the way it should be. Me included sometimes, trust me. :)

The absolute best thing you can do as you contemplate your life's direction is to spend time with God. Pray, ask God to teach you things, ask Him to show You things. Confess the Word that talks about this. I especially like Jeremiah 29:11.

Spend time being a blessing wherever you can. Get really great at living your life as a Christian. It's through these things that God will start to reveal more of the plan.

Look at the alternative. If you sit around in fear and confusion, that's pretty much where you'll stay. You must give God something to work with. An open heart and mind that's filled with trust. Then He can open doors for you. When the right door opens you'll feel a sense of peace. That's when you'll know your next step.

If nothing seems to be happening, just go back and spend more time with God. Go for the source!

Blessings,

Karen

what to do with my life!!!!
by: Karen

I have heard strong prophecies and a lot of people have told me i will go into missionaries, but i have no idea how. I also have no idea what job i am going to do, i am currently in sixth form and struggling what to do with my life. i don't know if God wants me to go to bible college, and if and how i should go about it. I don't really understand missionaries, but i am involved with a mission control thing at my sixth form helping to reach out to youth. I am so scared for what God wants me to do, but i trust him and i know my life is in his plans. I just don't know how to go about it, i feel lost.

ENCOURAGEMENT
by: servant of jesus

Dear friend , i am also in the same situation, where there is always an inward pushing to go to the bible college. By this time the enemy tries his level best to tell us thru many people, things to persuade us that we are not called for God's ministry. he did this for our Lord Jesus also when he was hungry after 40days of fasting, he went on asking questions to create question in his heart about himself, he asked him, if you are the son of god, do this or that. See how my God Jesus overcame it, he did it thru the Word. so friend do not be disturbed by such things. A person whom God has called to his ministry will surely know that he/she is called for God's ministry. Dear friend, go on in obeying God's voice and He will lead you. Spend more hours in His loving presence and He will surely direct your steps into his perfect will. God bless you.

Opening your heart
by: Karen

First to calling or desire,

No, it doesn't necessarily mean you're being called to ministry. It just means your heart is desiring to know more. Go to the classes if you're able. Learn about God and His character. It will help you go deeper in your relationship.

As for young and unsure,

My daughter started talking about ministry when she was 13. I don't know if that's a special age, but it was the beginning of her journey.

Young, I see some of my daughter in your question. She tends to dwell on things way too much. She tries to analyze and think things to death sometimes. :)

My best advice to you is to go out and be the best young Christian woman you can be. Follow God's rules for life as you continue to grow and mature. At age 13 you have your hands full just growing and learning. That doesn't mean God isn't tugging at your heart, I just know He doesn't expect you to make any huge decisions right now.

And as for those girls that laugh at you, there is no rule that you have to share your dreams or anything else with people who make fun of you. Share them with a parent or trusted friend who will support you, wherever God takes you.

Get really great at being a strong Christian young woman. In the midst of that, God will start showing you open doors. You might see a Christian concert that sparks your interest or you might feel like you want to help out in the nursery at church.

Just follow your interests. You take a step and God will take a step.

In the meantime, relax and enjoy being 13. Stay focused on one day at a time. You have lots of time to think about your whole life. It will come together. I promise.

Blessings,

Karen

Young and Unsure

I'm a thirteen year old girl and feel as thought Christ is calling me, but I still want to do other things with my life. Plus, some girls laugh at me when I mention God, and I don't know what to do. Any help?

Calling or Desire
by: Anonymous

I'm dealing with the same thing. But I started wanting to learn more and more about God and build a closer relationship. I found out about a Bible college in my town that you can attend one weekend a month and I thought that would be a wonderful way to learn. I think about it a lot but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm being called to the ministry, or does it?

God will show you the way to go and he will show the life. by Mkemdirim Edeh Matthew

How to be happy
by: Karen

There is nothing in God's Word that says following God's purpose is easy. In fact, this world and its ways make it very difficult to do it.

When you follow God's call, He will open the right doors to enable you to do it. God never tells you to do something without giving you the grace and tools to do it. That's why we have so much faith in letting God take control of our lives.

That doesn't mean your whole life is simply going to "fall into place". Boy, wouldn't that be great? But alas, we still have free choices and there simply is no guarantee that we're always going to make the right ones.

And yes, sometimes God calls us to do REALLY TOUGH STUFF. But His purpose is to lead us step by step. You take a step and God takes a step. Sometimes I wish I could see the whole plan in advance so it wouldn't seem so scary. But then, if God showed it to me, I'm pretty sure I'd look like a deer caught in the headlights. :)

I believe God genuinely wants each of us to be happy. But God's version of happiness is completely different from the world's version. Each of us is created with an internal desire to follow God's leading. It's God's compass that dwells in our hearts.

When we follow that compass, God is able to fill us with an indescribable joy and peace that can only come from being in that place. That "happiness" is part of God's plan. He wants this for us more than we do.

When you have an ongoing relationship with God, and I'm talking about a relationship that is more than simply submitting a laundry list of our wishes, you truly get to know God and His character. Out of that relationship comes an even stronger desire to reach out to the people around you. And from that relationship comes the ability to be led by the Spirit in everyday life.

The results of those leadings lead to even more peace and joy.

And from that peace and joy you learn to cast your care on God when the inevitable storms of life come your way. It's easier to deal with the difficult people that are a part of life. It's easier to forgive when somebody hurts you. And when you really think about your life, you can honestly say, "Yes, I really am happy."

Following God's purpose is two fold. Getting really great at being a Christian is His purpose for each of us. It is in the midst of the first part that God can work on the second part, which is His individual plan for your life. If you aren't real great at part one, it is really tough to figure out part two.

Is any of this easy? Nope, especially in the beginning. But as God helps you overcome things in your life that are hindering you from moving forward, they lose their power over you. (things like overcoming jealousy or anger, etc.)

My favorite author, Joyce Meyer, says there are far too many people who have just enough of Jesus to get into heaven but not enough of Him to have victory in this life.

So keep that relationship strong, following wherever it leads.

Blessings,

Karen

you will know
by: Anonymous

No PAIN no PURPOSE..... Nothing in life is easy. God says the race is not given to the swift but to the one who endureth to the end.... so in just listening to that its obvious it takes time and patience to get to where. GOD wants us..... so be quiet long enogh to hear his voice leading you and you will know for sure if that's what GOD is calling you to do.

It's NOT easy
by: Anna

I kind of disagree with the comments about God wanting us to be happy, and about how if you really are being called, that it will all fall into place. I know a woman who had an abortion once, and she said "It was just so easy, everything fell into place, it was meant to be."

I don't believe God makes things easy for us - I believe God wants what's BEST for us, and a lot of the time, what's best isn't what's easiest. Look at the stories in the bible... how many of the disciples had an EASY time of it? Following a call is HARD. It is meant to be hard because what do we really learn about our faith if we are never tested?

Have faith in God - the fact that you are considering Bible college means that God is already working in your life. Trust in him, it may be difficult, you may question yourself, but you have been called, and take it from somebody who knows... God doesn't give up on you. He won't leave you alone until you do what you feel he is telling you to do. God bless you in your journey.

Choosing to Follow
by: Karen

Hi Shelly,

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with Kathalene somewhat.

It is your choice to follow God's leading. It is always your choice. God gave you the right to choose about all things in your life.

God is a true gentleman. He will never force His will upon anybody. He wants you to freely choose His plan, whatever that may be.

Best of luck,

Karen

Ministry
by: Kathalene

God's calling you to the ministry is the voice of the Lord, if you sit quietly, you will hear him. It is not the family that is encouraging you, it is your own soul that desires it.

This is not your decision to make, it does not come from you. It comes from God. This will be God's decision... if it is within his will.

The Bible says that if we delight in the Lord, he will give us the desires of our hearts (Ps.37:4,Ps.20:4,Ps.21:2)

Hope this helps!

Follow the Call
by: Anonymous

Hi Shelly,

It's a little overwhelming to think that God may be calling you to ministry, isn't it? I know the feeling.

Shelly, the bottom line is that God wants you to be happy MORE than you do. Because He created you, He knows exactly what it will take to make you happy. You have absolutely nothing to lose by following the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Of course, that being said, please feel comforted that you don't have to turn your whole life upside down all at once. Take a step. If God has anointed you to ministry, then things will fall into place. If He hasn't you will struggle and not have a sense of peace. But at least you'll know.

Shelly, God will meet you where you're at. If your heart is open and willing He'll show you how, where, and when. Just take the first step and see what happens.

Many blessings,

Karen
