How to Deal with Stress and Feeling Overwhelmed by Life
Now that's a huge topic. How to deal with STRESS. I bet there are literally thousands of people who could write a book about their own struggles these days.
And the overwhelmed by life part? Yes, I know. It's huge too. Even though there are still lots of positive, life affirming stories in the world, there are also those stories that tear out your insides.
When you consider the money worries, the job worries, the family and marriage worries, it isn't too tough to see why overcoming anxiety and depression is also a major deal for so many.
It is so incredibly easy to go to church every Sunday, hear the message, and then go home again and not even give your Christian beliefs another thought again until the next Sunday. And then you go out and deal with all of life's stuff every day until the next Sunday. And it starts all over again.
I just re-read this book for the third time. It is a book that has absolutely drawn me into its message so much that I wanted to make sure I absorbed all of it.
I think this book's subtitle, "Overcoming Life's Struggles through Worship" says it all.
As many of you already know if you've spent any time on this site, Joyce Meyer is one of my all time favorite authors. Her style just speaks to my heart because it's real. She's been there.
"The Battle Belongs to the Lord" teaches you how to put all your problems, all your stress, and all your worries into perspective. It's about truly learning how to deal with stress and the pressures of life by using the principles that God gives you when you become a Christian.
Somewhere along the way we've missed the boat. We've missed the point of being a Christian.
I Love this Part...
Here is some material from this book that I found particularly relevant:
"Without God's help, we can't change anything in our lives. We can't change ourselves, our spouse, our family, our friends, or our circumstances. Truly, truly, apart from Him we cannot do anything!
We forfeit peace and joy due to not letting God be God. We try to figure out things we have no business even touching with our minds. There are some things that are simply too high or too deep for us. Nothing is too hard or too wonderful for God, but many things are too hard or too wonderful for us. God is infinite, but we are finite human beings with limitations."
Further on in this section, Joyce says,
"It is so liberating to say, 'Lord, I don't know what to do, and even if I did, I couldn't do it. But Lord, my eyes are on You. I am going to wait and watch for You to do something about this situation - because there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.'
When we are faced with impossible or even difficult situations, we may hear that recording playing in our head, 'What are you going to do? What are you going to do? What are you going to do?' Our friends may say, "I heard about your situation. What are you going to do?'
That is when we should tell them, 'I'm going to do what Jehosophat did in 2 Chronicles 20. I'm going to turn it over to the Lord - and wait on Him. He will do something wonderful, and I am going to enjoy watching Him do it!"
Is that teaching how to deal with stress or what?
This book teaches you how praise and worship opens the door to God's power. It shows you how all the great figures in the Bible ALWAYS worshiped God before the answer came.
And most importantly, it guides you and shows you just how important this can be in your own life.
Like I said, I just re-read it for the third time. Yes, I guess you could say I heartily recommend it.
