I Hate Myself!

by Nelly
(SA)

I just hate myself so much! I want to get away from myself so badly (but obviously can't). I know God loves me and that from scripture we learn that we are 'fearfully and wonderfully made' by God, and I believe that. It's just that I Just can't forgive myself anything. REally silly things I do wrong I just can't forgive myself for. This has gone on for years and years. I've asked God to help me to like myself a little more, but somehow it feels wrong to me. I'm in a relationship with a wonderful man, and I think my hatered for myself is starting to take it's toll on the relationship. Sometimes I think he's crazy to love me, when I find it hard to. What do I do?

Romans
by: Zama

My Dear Sister Nelly

Our Father please help your child. Make her realise the work that you did on the cross, you died for us while we were still sinners. Make her realise that she is a beautiful creation, the work of your own hands, your special possesion. Make her acknowledge the sacrifice you've done on the cross just for her, so that she could be free from sin, guilt and condemnation. Reveal Yourself to her in Jesus Name. Amen

If you haven't received Christ Jesus as the Lord and Savior of your life my sister Nelly, now is the time to. If you have, please ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand Romans 8:31-39 & Ephesians 3:14-21.

I am going to say it again, God loves you, the fact that you have people responding to your comment just gives you a hint that there is a God out there who really cares about your soul. God is faithful to His Word, He is a God that never lies. He offers His abundant grace and mercy to His people.

Take what God is Offering

Nelly, I have to add my Amen and Amen to Shelly and Karen. I totally understand where you are coming from. My therapist told me I hated myself. At the time, I did not know what she meant. One day she asked me to talk to that part of me I hated. I thought it was a silly exercise but I proceeded.

All of a sudden, I heard myself yelling at that part of me saying, "I hate you! I hate you! If you were dead I would be ok." As I said this, a tear rolled down my Christian Therapists face. Wow, I now knew in my heart that I really do hate myself.

I drove home rather stunned. When I got home, I got on my knees and told God what he already knew. I asked Him to forgive me for sinning against myself. I told him I wanted to learn to love myself but did not know how. I asked him to teach me by the Holy Spirit.

It took time. I tell people I teach that when I was 30 I made a serious commitment to God. At 39, I made a serious commitment to myself. I discovered I was calling unclean what God called clean and that was me.

Jesus went literly through and to hell to set you free from yourself. If you want healing then you know God wants you healed. In Amos, it says," how can two men walk together except they be in agreement." If you agree with God, you really want healing then the two of you are walking together toward healing no matter the length of time.

I wrote a book on this subject entitled "Ending the War with Myself." you might want to check it out here on this website and at www.endingthewarwithmyself.com.

God loves, accepts you as you are today, yet He loves you too much to leave you where you are.
In Christ, Micky

Hating ourselves
by: Cherry

Oh honey! My heart goes out to you! I hated myself for 3 years for things I did in the past - to such an extent that I was an emotional cripple. I was no good to God or others. I was so wrapped up in my own sense of guilt that I couldn't move outside myself. I was unable to function properly in the Body of Christ. All I basically did was need help - but not give any of real value. I also knew God had forgiven me - but it was only head knowledge, not deep-in-my-soul assurance.

I thought I was too bad to be let off the hook. If God didn't punish me, I had to do it myself. And then a very precious Christian sister asked me these startling questions:

"Was Christ's death insufficient to cover all your sins?"

"Did God lie when He said you are forgiven?"

"Did He lie when He said He remembers your sin no more?"

"What can you possibly hope to gain by continuing to feel guilty?"

"Has feeling guilty made you a better Christian?"

"How do you justify punishing yourself when even God doesn't? Are you more powerful than Him?"

"Where in the Bible does it say you must pay for your sins in any way at all?"

"What right do you have to deny yourself forgiveness after Jesus has done all that needs to be done? He died once - for all your sins."

Well, I had to face the fact that my guilt was actually a sin. I had believed Satan's lie that I was too bad to be forgiven. Yet God says He cannot forgive us if we do not forgive others - including ourselves.

Honey, I hope you really think about this and give yourself permission to trust the all-powerful blood of Christ. You're dressed in a white robe. You're the apple of His eye. He's crazy in love with you! God looks at you and He sees you as perfect - not because of what you do, or say, or don't do, or say, but simply because Christ's sacrifice is the ONLY thing that makes you righteous. Claim that truth. Believe it. Live it. You are free to do so!!!!

I'm praying for you and our God is stronger to save than your guilt can ever be ....

With hugs and so much love
Cherry

Love is real
by: Karen

Hi Nellie,

When you say you believe that you are made in God's image, I have to tell you there is a big difference between knowing it and believing it.

What you're lacking is a true, deep down knowing that God REALLY DOES LOVE YOU. Yeah, you. God's love isn't just for your family and friends, HE LOVES YOU.

There is a big difference between who you are in Christ and what you do and how you act in this life. Knowing God loves you is huge if you're ever going to move forward into what God has in mind for you in this life.

Nellie, there is nothing you can ever do that will take God's love away from you. Nothing. He will always love you. He will never abandon you.

And when it comes to forgiving yourself...sometimes it has to do with your self esteem and all the negative stuff you've told yourself over the years. For whatever reason you've decided you don't deserve to have God's forgiveness or His love.

So here's what I would try. Go to a mirror. (Of course, I would do this when I was alone.) Repeat these words:

GOD LOVES ME! HE REALLY LOVES ME!

And then say directly to you: I FORGIVE YOU. I REALLY TRULY FORGIVE YOU.

And lastly, Nellie, start filling up with positive, life affirming stuff. There is a great new book out by Joyce Meyer called, Power Thoughts. Oh my, oh my, this is a fantastic book. Here it is:

Power Thoughts: 12 Strategies to Win the Battle of the Mind

It's excellent.

Blessings,

Karen
