Oh, Those Juicy Rumors.....
Why do juicy rumors appeal to so many people? What is so addicting that people just can't seem to stop this behavior? Everywhere you look are people who otherwise are productive, God-fearing people, and yet, they can't seem to stop this horrible gossiping habit.
When you first hear something negative about someone else, what's the first thought that comes into your mind? Are you inclined to believe what you're hearing, or are you more inclined to give the person the benefit of the doubt?
The truth is.....most people are going to not only believe the worst, but be first in line to pass it along to someone else. The saddest part of all is that Christians are just as guilty as non-Christians in participating in the destruction.
I'm Not THAT Bad..... Can we all really be foolish enough to think that making someone else look bad makes us look better? Or could it be that as we're repeating those juicy rumors, that we secretly feel justified in our own bad behavior? I mean, we're not half as bad as that other person, and whatever our current bad behavior, it's no big deal, is it?
Or could it be that it's just too easy to judge other people? It's just too easy to stand in a higher place and look down so we can feel smug and perfect. How many times have you said, "I would never do that." The truth is, you've done things just like that or worse. We all have. Yet, our memories are short. One of my favorite authors, Joyce Meyer, says we look at other people with a microscope but look at ourselves with rose colored glasses. Perhaps it's time to take off the rose colored glasses.
What Works? What Do you do around people who won't stop GOSSIPING?
What do you think makes people want to gossip? Who do you know that's kicked the habit? How did they do it?
