Knowing Gods leading

by Dan
(Arizona)

Karen
Just wanted to here your take on knowing Gods leading...I'am at a place right now where I really need to know God's voice. I have many major decisions to make and really want to seek God and his help to make the right choices....I'am 47 and feel that I'am not only starting over in some areas of my life but also need to make changes in others. This all at times seems overwhelming......Just want to finish the race not only filling Gods plan for my life but making the best choices by HIS LEADING.......Dan

God's Leading
by: Karen

Hi Dan,

Wanting to follow God's leading is the first step in securing a great relationship with God. And that really is the key. In order to follow God's plan, you have to get to know God.

It's sort of like the relationship I have with my kids. I'm close to both of my adult children because I've spent a lot of time raising, loving, and teaching them to grow up to be loving adults.

In fact I'm very blessed that they both ask my advice ... of course, they don't always follow it, but that's a whole other story. :)

When I advise my kids or point them in a different direction, they see that information as valuable because of the relationship. They know they can trust that I have their best interests at heart. They know I love them.

Can you see how investing time in a relationship with God could get the same results? The more you get to know God's character, and His ways, the more you'll be able to recognize His leading.

Most of the time I know God is prompting me when I feel this urging in my gut. I'll be doing something in my normal life and then I'll see somebody or something that catches my eye. Usually it's somebody that needs help in some way. It's when I reach out to that person that I feel "right" about what I'm doing. Then I know it's God.

When I'm contemplating making a decision, most of the time I'm led by an internal peace about the decision. I find this happens ALOT when it's a financial decision.

Recently we purchased a car. We'd been thinking about doing this for awhile, but I just didn't feel right about it. I couldn't even tell you why, I just didn't have peace. This was in December.

In January the sales guy called to say the same car we'd been looking at was now $3000 less in price. Now I had peace about it. God knew we needed to wait until the time was right and so He could give us the best price.

I can give you other examples of where I ignored that feeling of peace and the incredible mess it caused. If only I had followed His leading...

Dan, if you want even more info on this, I've answered several other similar questions on here, so just scan some of those. And you'll find even more stuff on some of the pages on this site. Click on the tab on the left called "Life Purpose".

Many blessings,

Karen
