Karen's Book Review
This book is a Christian fiction tale about a young woman who starts a new life in California back in the days of stage coaches, dirt streets, and hoop skirts. While I enjoyed the main character, I was a bit disappointed that the plot didn't "thicken" until I was half way through the book. However, it does move forward wonderfully at that point. Ruth, the main character, is exactly what Christian women must strive to become. She is a prime example of Christian strength and tenacity. But her real gift was pushing through to her dream despite all her shortcomings. Every time she got tangled up in one of her faults, she asked for forgiveness, and moved toward the dream God gave her. What a lesson…… And of course, the story wouldn't be complete without the hero...Josh. He was an honorable Christian man that lived his life based on Christian principles. But it certainly didn't mean he was without his share of trials. He was forced to face some terrible truths, not easy and certainly not what anyone wants to do. But showing us how to stay focused and calm in the midst of all the turmoil was exactly what Josh does in the story. Even though this book wasn't my favorite Christian fiction book, it does provide a story filled with great lessons, and oh yes...romance.
