Love and Honesty ... What a GREAT Idea

In the company of Secrets

by Judith Miller

Karen's Book Reviews

Reading about love and honesty is not exactly a new concept. After all, how many times have you heard your mother tell you how telling the truth is the only way people will trust you?

Unfortunately for Olivia, the main character in this book, her mother was taken from her at an early age, so she missed out on a lot of that great stuff growing up.

"In the Company of Secrets" is a very entertaining Christian fiction book. I really enjoyed the author's way of building the characters with both tremendous attributes and nagging flaws. It made the book seem more real.

I love Christian fiction books that weave the concepts of Christianity through and around the lives of the characters. I appreciate the struggles the characters face because we all face the exact same struggles. The answers aren't always easy. The choices aren't always clear-cut, and the line between love and honesty is sometimes very, very blurry.
As Olivia's poor choices lead to more and more lies, she finds herself on a Christian journey of discovery as she faces the consequences of her choices. A particularly relevant moment in the book was when Olivia prayed and asked God to help her with a problem that resulted from her poor choices, sincerely asking and expecting God to answer, and all she heard back was to tell the truth.

How many times have you got into messes and then prayed for help to get out of it? We're funny that way. We want all the freedom in the world to make our choices, but when they don't turn out the way we plan and we end up in a huge mess, we're really quick to pray for help. And oh yeah, we'd like the mess to be fixed right away because it is REALLY inconvenient.....

Sound familiar?

I can tell you from first hand experience that God is going to tell you what you need to hear, whether you WANT to hear it or not. And oh yeah......He doesn't change His mind either.

Perhaps it would be better to talk to God on a regular basis and do what He says BEFORE you make your choices. Since God is the ultimate example of love and honesty, you can bet He's going to tell You the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

"In the Company of Secrets" by Judith Miller is a GREAT read. I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Whispers Along the Rails

by Judith Miller

The next book in this series is out. WOW, I loved it. The story of Olivia continues as she struggles to do the right thing, even when it's difficult. I think Olivia shows us how tough it can be to do the right thing when life's circumstances are literally SCREAMING for you to make less than right choices.

The book also mixes in some other great characters who face many struggles with love and honesty in the midst of intrigue and suspense. And of course, the story focuses on how easily people become corrupted by money.

I think my favorite part of this book was the story of Charlotte, a character who went from living a very self indulgent life to living a life focused on helping others. It was a GREAT example of how God can change a heart, no matter how tightly the door is closed.

Whispers Along the Rails is an absolute must for Christian fiction readers.

An Uncertain Dream

by Judith Miller

As the last book in this series, I have to say I loved it. It was a great ending to a love story that not only focused on love and honesty, but also told of the struggle of the unions back when they first began.

I liked how Judith Miller wove the two stories together. The moral of this book was that even when the outcome you work so very hard to achieve doesn't come to pass, God's plan for you can turn out to be so much better.

What we think we want and what's best for us are often two entirely different things. It's the faith that leads us through the disappointments, knowing that God makes all things work out for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

I highly recommend this series if you love stories about faith, love, and intrigue.

OK, so how do get these books CHEAP? I like cheap books too.

Amazon lets you choose between new and used versions of these books. You get GREAT prices and you help us at the same time. Everybody wins!

AND, even more Christian family fiction:
