Sometimes I think the worst offenders are usually kids. It seems we've given them a sense of entitlement as they were raised, and when things don't go according to their plan, we hear that inevitable, irritating, voice. Ugh.When my kids were growing up I often wished for an "off" button that I could push whenever one of them would start whining. But it seemed like once they started, if we weren't careful, it would turn into a battle of wills, and all parents know how those usually turn out!
But I think we need to realize that excessive whining isn't necessarily the fault of the kids. Adults whine as much as anybody. It's a nasty habit that probably has gotten results at one time or another. Some people would rather give in rather than listen to the whining. But once it appears that "whining works", then the nasty cycle continues.
So what do you do about it? What happens when you've had enough and now you're going to stop this unending torment from making you completely nuts?
And what about co-workers? Or even whining Christians? It seems there's always somebody around that loves the sound of that nagging voice.
The good news is that we can all get this thing under control if we put our heads together to find what works.
