There isn't a mom who doesn't need parenting help sometimes. And even though we know raising our kids Gods way isn't easy, we also know that without faith, our kids will face a very long, endless battle all through their lives.
If your kids are like mine used to be as they grew up, they want the answer to every question and they even want answers to questions they haven't asked. And of course, the entire world revolves around them and if the answers they're hearing disrupt that process, they tune out and move on to something else.
That's why it's important that we, as parents, take a different approach when it comes to matters of faith. Letting our kids see "what's in it for me" at least gives them an incentive to consider what faith is all about.
The time never seems to come when we know our job is done. Actually, I don't think we can ever let up. Smart parenting is too important, but none of us can do it without some parenting help.
When you look around the world, I think we can all see the results of too much permissive parenting. The whole entitlement attitude that we see so much in our kids today has come from too much worldly influence and in so many cases, too much bad parenting. It's so much easier to just give in than to stand our ground with our kids.
The good news is that it's never too late to start turning things around. There are some things you can do to start the change process. But just remember...it starts with changing us...the parents.
Here are some of my favorite Christian authors who specialize in Christian parenting:
I absolutely love Kevin Leman. If you ever get the chance to hear him speak, go see him. He's entertaining and his stuff is so incredibly relevant:
James Dobson is very down to earth. His stuff is practical and doesn't require a PHD to understand it. I especially like that his advice actually works!
Having a GREAT Christian marriage is one of the best things you can do for your kids. "Save Your Christian Marriage" is one of the best christian books on marriage I've read in a very long time. This book is for you, even if your marriage isn't in trouble. It comes with one on one advice directly from the author, who works with couples every single day.
