Prayer Group

I would like to start a prayer group for myself and the Christian women that go to my Church. What will I need to start, and where could I find good self help books?

This prayer group is an open discussion so the topic could be any thing from marriage, to personal growth, Spiritual, etc. Thank You

The Best Self Help Book
by: Denise Mistich

The best prayer group or Bible study I've ever been a part of was one where we each studied our Bibles on our own. Once a week, we came together and shared what we had learned from the passages we read. It all tied together in the most amazing way.

By the way, I am the author of a Bible study guide called The Life Cycle. It is geared mainly toward new Christians or those who have fallen away and want to come back. I highly recommend the Bible itself, but The Life Cycle is full of scripures.

Starting a Prayer Group
by: Karen

Prayer groups are awesome. They put such a great face on being Christian.

I used to belong to a group that met once a month in someone's home. They wanted to meet in a home rather than the church just because it felt more comfortable.

Choosing the right bible studies or other materials will depend on the group. There is nothing wrong with deciding what to study during your first meeting. You can choose the topics that your members most want to address and then pick your study materials.

You can also incorporate music, devotion time, or prayer. I like the idea of having a basket at the door so each person can put in a prayer request. Then the group can all pray together over those requests.

I also like the idea of taking some time to share GREAT stuff. Whoever has a great book to share or has found a GREAT website like, well, this one, :) can share that stuff with the group.

There is no limit to the kinds of things you can do. Try some things and see what works for your members. Don't be afraid to try new things too.

Many blessings on your new group,

Karen

Suggestions

Go to your local Christian bookstore. They have a number of studies you can use. Also, check out Kay Arthur's site, precept.org. She has extremely good Bible studies. Also Beth Moore is excellent. Her site...lproof.org. Or you could use a book on a topic that would be helpful to all. May the Lord bless all your efforts and that all would be helped and blessed.
