Staying Organized in the Midst of Clutter and Distractions

The Old Things
Staying organized in the midst of personal clutter and distractions in our lives is a challenge.
There seems to always be something lurking just around the corner to pull us back into some point of disarray.
There may be "old" things in our lives which we must remove. Things that we just don't have need of anymore and keeping them causes us a level of frustration and discomfort.
It may be material objects or not but they are there. This is a great time of the year to move the "old" things out.
The new year is quickly approaching. Let's not wait until December 31 and then make another promise to ourselves that we will do better. Get ahead of the game and begin to acknowledge the personal clutter or distractions and move them out now.
I personally have two areas which I am working on. The first one is material. There is still unwanted paper in my home office that I must make a decision on. I don't want to just sort them where they belong, I want to go to another level in my life and conquer the "paper clutter" once and for all.
When life gets a little busy, I can easily fall back into my old habit of putting it in the drawer and looking at it "later."
I must activate the principle of: The Power of Now.
When I "touch" the paper, I must do with it then what needs to be done.
The second one is personal distractions. There is only so much energy and time I can use within a day. When I find myself getting too deeply involved in others' problems, honestly it becomes a distraction for me.
In this area I heard of a simple solution.
When someone calls me with a problem, I will listen long enough to be clear on what the problem is. Then I will ask them are they ready for a solution. Then I will give them counsel and an assignment. If they cannot or will not follow the assignment then I understand they really don't want my counsel and it will only cost me precious energy.
It may seem hard but it is wisdom to know who I can help and who I cannot. It also helps me to stay focused and organized on the task at hand.
