chronic whiner

My one child c onstantly whines and complains, so much so that I am starting to think seriously about more ways too combat it. Presently, he has to write out 15 things that he is thankful for and verses in the Bible that deal with it as well. He really does not like this so I am hoping that It will work.

Building Strength & Character

by Monica
(Kansas)

When our youngest son whines, (he is 11) we take a family vote to confirm that it is, in fact, whining. If the majority vote is for whining, he has to stop what he is doing and do 10 push ups or sit ups. If he chooses to whine about that, he gets 10 more added. This has worked so well that we rarely have to vote any more, he is whining less and he is really liking the physical results of the excercise!

Ten minute whine

With three small girls we had our fair share of whining. When it got to be too much, I would call a "ten minute whine" and we all had to get our whines out simultaneously for ten minutes (which we never actually sustained before bursting into giggles) and then we would each do a brief gratitude list. Turned a potentially negative atmosphere to fun and gratitude. Now that they are older, the girls tell how much they hated those ten minute whines... but other than that, they hardly ever whine. I say it worked!

Whining Co-Worker

by Shelly
(Chicago, Illinois)

It's really hard to work with somebody that whines constantly. I know because I have to work with someone who looks for a reason to whine and complain.

Things aren't perfect at my place of employment, but there are other places that are alot worse.

When this person starts whining, the rest of us usually ignore her. Sometimes it gets really bad and we just tell her to stop whining.

She usually denies that she's whining, but when everyone else agrees she usually stops for the moment. Then she sulks for the rest of the day.

It's a cycle that gets repeated over and over. I don't know if there is any help for this person, but it sure would be nice for the rest of us if she would just stop altogether.
