The Crooked Tree

by Toni Star
(Ohio)

The other day, after going through a trying time with several individuals I saw something interesting that gave me some clarity on the situation.

I was sitting in the car behind our library waiting for my husband and I happened to notice an interesting tree. The tree was mature but about five feet from the ground the tree took a twist to the right, making it look irregular, crooked and 'out of focus.'

Seconds later, I began thinking about people in relation to trees. I've always loved trees and what they do for the environment and their inspiring shape. Looking at the irregular shape of the tree brought to mind the phrase, "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree."

When you think about trees and how they grow, don't they relate to people?

Think of the people you meet and know who are troubled and lost--those who don't have Christ in their lives. Often when one meets and talks with them, one will find that they know little of Christ, show little to no interest in our Lord and how a Christian should live.

Sometimes one can witness with good results to such a person but often he or she will shrug their shoulders and reply, "I don't need Christ in my life and have no desire to get to know Him."

But remembering the "twig is bent" theory sure helps and I try whenever possible to pray for such a soul, for Heaven and Hell are for eternity...

Planting a seed
by: Holly Benson

This article is very good because many christians who share their faith wish that they could see the fruit of the seed that they planted with a person when sharing the gospel. But yours may have been the first or second or third seed planted in them and only God knows when that seed will take root in their life and bring forth thier salvation through Jesus. Being a former atheist myself, many people in my life planted seeds in my life, my mom, you (Aunt Toni), friends, co-workers, my sister and it wasn't until my life was such a mess and unpleasant that it finally took root when a friend told me about a book called Battlefield of the Mind bu Joyce Meyer and The Anointing by Rod Parsley. So she got to reap the reward of bring someone to Christ but she was not the only worker to bring forth fruit of the spirit in my life for she was but one of the many laborers of gospel who like farmers planted and prayed for the seed to take root. God bless you and continue to use you to further His glory. Come Lord Jesus, come quickly.

Love,

Holly

What a wonderful story
by: Anonymous

My husband is one of those individuals. It doesn't make me love him any less, but it does make me sad. I just pray for him and live my life doing what is right so maybe he will see the love of the Lord through me. That is all we can do. Thank you for such a beautiful story. God bless you.

Excellent!
by: Anonymous

This was a great analogy. We often tend to sometimes forget that not everyone thinks as we do once we give our lives to Christ. We were all like the bent tree at one point and God saved us. Let's continue to stay humble and pray for others and let our lights shine and our lives be an example to all that see us. God is good.

Great Analogy
by: Jan Ross

I just love it when God uses the natural things of this earth to teach spiritual truths that help us deal with our current circumstances. He never fails to lead us through His creation! Thanks for the insight -- I can "see" it perfectly and am challenged to look at unbelievers as a bend in the tree that doesn't flow with my own thinking and perception of life. It makes absolute sense!

God bless,
Jan
