The Secret of An Irresistible Woman 1

by Andrea Onah
(Surrey, UK)

I was at a Christian ladies conference recently. One of the pastors was sharing that by the time she graduated from university, she had numerous SERIOUS proposals from several would be suitors who wanted to marry her. Now, I am not talking here about some greyed great, great grandma talking about her 'remember when' post war experience that happened so last century! No, this pastor is YOUNG and so very this century.

I don't know about you but I don't get to hear such stories a lot. Most men I knew or heard of when I was at university, made for the nearest emergency exit the minute any woman started talking about the future. In sharp contrast to my own experiences, (pause, whilst I try to stop laughing)... when I left university, the men who were asking me on dates did not even know how to spell the word 'marriage' or 'wedding' or anything to do with joining a woman in holy matrimony!

But not so for this pastor. She had non-fictitious, i.e. real, young men making a beeline for her hand in MARRIAGE! The only beeline I knew then, (more laughter), was the one I was standing in along with several others, trying to find a decent man who knew how to start a sentence with 'Will you...'

So what was this pastor's secret?

The I-factor. Yes, by her own admission, her suitors she said, found her IRRESISTIBLE.

How then, does a woman qualify for this I-factor? I got searching and researching. I deliberately did not ask my husband for his definition of the I-factor. Later perhaps. (This topic is a series by the way). No, I wanted an all round unbiased definition of the word.

The Bible always has the answers. I ended up with the story of Rebekah. Today, we'll take a journey back in time through the eyes of Abraham's servant who had the mission to find a suitable, no doubt irresistible, wife for Isaac (Genesis 24).

So sit tight and I'll be right back at the end to close today's column...

------
THE MISSION

Hi, I am a servant of Abraham. I am one of his best and trusted servants. He is a good God-fearing man, my master, Abraham. He yaps all day about his God. So much so that I am now converted.

My master Abraham is very old now, I think about 140 years. I think he is getting ready to die to be honest. He has been busy in the last few months tidying loose ends as the curtains of his life are drawing to a close.

My master Abraham has requested that I find a wife for his son, Isaac. Isaac is the beloved son of his old age. God gave my master Abraham and Sarah, his wife, their son Isaac miraculously. It is quite an inspiring story but I don't have much time to go into the details today. Maybe another time.

Abraham is not keen on Isaac marrying any of the women in the land where we live. I don't blame him really. It even sends shivers down my spine to think of it. These women are not followers of God. My master will never compromise on having a pagan wife whose heart is hardened to the things of his God for his son.

A wife for Isaac has got to be chosen carefully. My master Abraham has expressly asked that I journey back to the land he once lived before he immigrated. He has also stated that I MUST select a wife from among his relatives.

REBEKAH WAS WILLING TO SERVE

I am not a man given to gambling or casting lots. Thankfully, I am a man who knows to pray. Either that or this assignment for a wife for Isaac would have been the original Mission Impossible. You don't know how grateful I am that I got a swift response to my earlier prayers. Don't get me wrong though, I have learned patience over the years. My master Abraham taught me. He waited, I think, 25 years for his Isaac after the promise. Boy, that gives patience another meaning.

Anyway I digressed a bit. I am very impressed by the woman that God has brought my way for Isaac. She is called Rebekah. I was looking for a woman who went the extra mile. I know the importance of service, you see. I have seen how my master Abraham serves his God. With all his heart, body and soul. That is the definition of servitude.

Well this young lady went over and beyond. After my long journey, all I would have been happy with was a drink for myself. But this woman not only gave me a drink, she also proceeded to feed not one, not two, but all ten of my camels!

Now for those of you who are thinking that giving camels a drink is a five minute job, I'll spell out to you what it takes. One camel can take up to 20 gallons of water. That is quite a lot of water! I estimate Rebekah must have spent an hour or much more just watering my camels.

But Rebekah was so willing to serve, to do a tedious labor intensive work. Talk about being irresistible!

REBEKAH SOUGHT NO REWARD

Another thing that drew me to this woman, Rebekah, was that she had no hidden agenda. Not materialistic in any shape. Not like the women in the land where we live, always after gold adornments and fine fabric.

But Rebekah...hmmm! When she volunteered to give my camels water, she sought absolutely no reward. How could she anyway? She did not even have a clue who I was. How would she know that I was the servant of an extremely wealthy master? By all accounts, she was later rewarded with the many gifts I brought along on my journey but she did not know this would happen. Rebekah did not know what my mission was about either, that I was looking for a wife for my master's son. All the other virgins who came to draw water for themselves would kick themselves if only they had known!

Rebekah is what I call a quality woman. She is what I call an I-R-R-E-S-I-S-T-I-B-L-E woman.

------
CLOSING THOUGHT...

Even before Abraham sent his servant on the mission, the objectives were crystal clear. The wife must come from his relatives. The first step in being an irresistible woman is that you must be part of God's Kingdom. In other words you MUST be born-again (see John 3:7). If you want God's help, direction and blessings, we must remember that we got to do it God's way (see Matthew 6:33).

From the eyes of Abraham's servant, Rebekah exhibited characteristics that made her very attractive in his sight. God was able to answer the servant's request for a woman of service (and quickly too, BEFORE he had even finished praying; see Genesis 24 verse 15). You see, God Himself knows the importance of servitude. If we choose especially to serve God with all our being as Rebekah served the servant tirelessly, men are drawn to us with such magnetism.

I believe that our service to God produces an aroma, an aura or even an anointing around us that attracts men towards us. Like a fragrance, these men will find themselves unwittingly making that beeline towards us. And this is precisely one of the secrets of the pastor of whom I spoke about earlier. Rebekah's service rated her exceptionally highly on the servant's scorecard.

The fact that Rebekah sought to serve first before even seeking a reward just kept the honey flowing. As women we must not be caught up in just receiving but in giving first. Forget about 'what is in this for me'. Giving of our talent and time to others will put us ahead.

Well, I hope you have enjoyed today's column. Do keep your comments coming in because I am always blessed to hear what you have to say too.

Next time, we will take a look at some more qualities of an irresistible woman. Till then, have an "irresistible woman" September!
