There but for the Grace of God go I; what a concept. It is in discovering your own weakness that you find God's strength.
Reading Grace for Tough Times was written so you wanted to keep reading, keep learning, and keep receiving. Mary J. Nelson did a great job helping me understand about the fiery times of life. There are lots of times when you feel like you're walking through fire and don't know what to do or where to turn.
This book points out the tremendous amount of hope, strength, and God's grace that comes when you simply ask. The author offers some great life examples of people walking through fire, trusting in and receiving grace from God, and coming out on the other side better than they were before. Throughout their trials, the phrase, "there but for the grace of God go I" was immediately apparent in all of them.
This author's approach to how you view life's problems is different than what the world says. Having fought cancer in her own life, she points out how different things can turn out if you view life's problems as God views them; opportunities to put your full trust in someone greater than you. And in return you receive God's grace. (His strength to do what would normally require tremendous struggle)
I think one of the best parts of the book is the prayer at the end of each chapter. Each prayer summarizes our struggle in so many areas and asks God for the grace to go through the continuing fire. But, even more that that, each prayer is not only a request, but is a source of comfort as well.
I heartily recommend Grace for Tough Times for anyone who needs comfort, strength, and peace in the storm because after all, there but for the Grace of God go I.
