Website Building Tools ... Where Do You Start?Finding the right website building tools has become pretty complicated these days. There are tons of companies offering tons of different stuff. But where do you find a company that is open and above board? How do you find one that does what it says and follows through on its promises? You know, all the things that Christians are supposed to be about? 
I get questions about my site on a regular basis, so I'm going to answer some of my most often asked questions by telling you what I did, how I did it, and which website building tools I used. How Much Knowledge and Experience did you have BEFORE your built Your Website? Answer: In a word, NONE. I love to write. It's what I'm good at, and I wanted my site to focus on my writing. But I was pretty worried that my writing wouldn't be enough. I mean, build a website....who me? I was both happy and relieved when I found Site-Build-It (SBI). They wrote their directional action guide as if I knew absolutely nothing. Good call. :) And, of course, there are some people who already have knowledge and experience in this area, and for those people, WOW! Many of those SBI sites are flying extraordinarily high. I was also very glad to find one of SBI's best website building tools...a forum of people who already had done what I was trying to do and just jumped right in to help me. Yes, there were days when I was lost, but somebody from the forums was always willing to grab my hand and show me how. Their motto is "help and be helped". Now, is that a Christian concept or what? How Did You Choose the Right Topic for Your Website? Answer: When I first considered my topic, I didn't want something that meant I had to store products in my basement. I'm limited in extra space in my home and I wanted to find something that I could do exclusively online. But I didn't just choose Christian books for women out of the air.
The tool then helped me evaluate those topics to see which ones had the most potential, both to reach my visitors AND to make money. It's called Choose-It. Choosing the right site topic is probably the most important part of this process. You'll definitely want to build a site around something you are absolutely passionate about. You're going to be spending A LOT of time on the topic so it has to be something you really love. How long did it take for you to get up and running? Answer: I started my site in early 2006. Today the site has hundreds of pages and is still growing every day. But it took me awhile to absorb the material so I could focus on what and how to do it. 
Here's something you probably won't believe......SBI says it's OK to go slow. Yup. See that turtle over to the right? It's the mascot for SBI. They promote slow and steady. There are lots of get-rich quick schemes on the internet. You can go almost anywhere and hear companies tell you they can "have your site up in 15 minutes and make you rich beyond your wildest dreams." But you and I both know it's just NOT going to happen that way. I chose SBI because they actually told me to go at my own pace and learn the material inside and out so I could build not only my site, but an actual web business. Answer: My earnings from this website are steadily increasing every month. Most of my income comes from a couple of sources. Google ads are one of my best moneymakers. They are the ads you see on many of the site's pages. When people click on the ads, I receive a small percentage.
Some people sell hard goods, e-goods, or you can sell your services like writing or consulting. You can have an e-store, or you can do as I do and become an affiliate, which means you're promoting other people's products that you think are great. In exchange you receive a commission. I'm ready to start my second site early next year, using all of SBI's website building tools. Once you have your first site up and running, you can duplicate all that you've learned and start receiving income from more than one site.
