When God says, "Hush!"

by Jackie Smith
(Austin, IN)

I have been married almost 7 years to my husband George. George gave his heart to God, a few months before we got married, but he didn't give it all the way. George and I have a great marriage, but didn't have the spiritual connection I had longed for.

I began to pray shortly after we got married for God to really come into his heart and make a change in his life. I could see the great man George could be, if only he allowed God into his heart.

I remembered a woman who went to church with me. Her husband had gone to church with her for over 30 years, but had never given his heart to God. One night during a revival, the gentleman gave his heart to God, and has been serving God ever since.

I prayed, and talked to George until I was blue in the face it seemed. The more I preached at George about giving everything to God, the more he rebelled and resisted.

One day I was getting ready for my shower when I felt God speak to my heart and say, "If you'll hush. I'll be free to work."

I had done all I could do, so I decided to follow what God had said. I kept praying for George, but stopped preaching at him.

George noticed I hadn't been preaching at him, and asked me why. I told him I felt it was something that only God could do and my preaching was only getting in God's way.

On April 11, 2008 George gave his heart to God at a men's conference. I have a husband who is on fire for God. This mild, soft spoken, shy man, has become someone who is out spoken, fired up, and very devoted to giving God all he has.

I stood in the altar area of our church this past Sunday with George as we both prayed. I looked over and saw George with his hands raised, praising God. I felt God speak to me and say, "Because of your obedience I was able to work and now you have a greater husband than you could've even imagined."

Sometimes we get in God's way and we just need to "Hush"

Great job
by: George

I was the inspiration for this article. I have to say when my wife followed the voice of God, I started changing. I am thankful to have her in my life and be able to share a strong faith with her. Our life is even better now than before. I am very proud of my wife and what she is doing for God.

Best of Friends

The fact being that I know the writer of this selection personally and know the befores and afters and seeing the way the past was verses now reminds me to wait for God's perfect timing and will in life in all situations. This is truly a story of a miracle of our obedience.

Hallelujah!
by: Lynn Mosher

What a great testimony. Sometimes we do stand in God's way, acting out in ways we think that we are helping.

This prove the scripture, 1 Peter 3:1-2, "Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives."

St. Francis of Assisi said it best, “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.”

May the Lord truly bless your new life together in Him!

How true!
by: Katherine Harms

Your article says something very important. We often run ahead of God or get in his way even though we have very good intentions. How wonderful that you were able to receive God's word to you in order to make it possible for God to speak to your husband.
Blessings,

Katherine Harms
